Dr. Krista McCallum Beatty, director of the International Student and Faculty services (ISFS) at Ohio University in Athens, has been named director of the International Students and Scholars office (ISSO), effective May 24.
“With over 20 years of strong proven experience with international student and scholar services, Krista’s depth of experience and knowledge will be valuable to Iowa State on an institutional and national level,” said senior vice president for student affairs Martino Harmon. “She will provide the analysis needed to move us forward and she will be a tireless advocate for our students.”
Prior to leading Ohio University’s ISFS, McCallum Beatty served in the same unit as associate director where she advised international students, scholars and employees on immigration issues, academic issues, personal and financial concerns, health insurance, housing, employment, and matters of social and cultural adjustment. She also served as assistant director at the office of international student services at the University of St. Thomas, in St. Paul, Minnesota.
“I am honored to become the next director of the International Students and Scholars office,” McCallum Beatty said. “Iowa State is a leading university nationally and internationally, and I am very excited to be joining the ISSO team. I look forward to working together with them to provide outstanding service to Iowa State University’s international students and scholars. I especially look forward to getting to know the international students and scholars at Iowa State.”
McCallum Beatty received her master’s of international administration (International Education and Training) from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont and her doctoral degree in higher education administration from Ohio University. She was also a graduate fellow (2008–2009) with the US Fulbright Student Program.
