Multicultural Student Scholarships

Applications are due Monday, Jan. 8 2018.

There are four multicultural student scholarships available through the Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs. Please carefully review the criteria of the award you are applying to before completing this application.

Note: Awards will be for academic year 2018-2019; total award is divided between the two semesters. Recipients must be enrolled for both semester to receive the full award. Winners will be notified in March 2018.

Recommendations

Please ask two individuals who have observed you in a leadership role to serve as references for you. Each of your references should complete a recommendation form. At least one of the references should come from a member of the Iowa State University faculty or staff. Recommenders should submit the forms prior to the application deadline.

The required essay topic depends on which scholarship you're applying for.

Herta David Minority Student Scholarship: In an essay of 500-1,000 words, describe the challenges in your family background that may have prevented you from pursuing a degree at Iowa State University. How have these experiences made you a stronger individual and prepared you to be a better citizen of the world?

Donald Smith Scholarship: In an essay of 500-1,000 words, describe the challenges and successes you have experienced as a student of color. Lawrence Shindel Scholarship: In an essay of 500-1,000 words, describe the challenges and successes you have experienced as a Native American. Crazy Horse Scholarship: In an essay of 500-1,000 words, describe the challenges and successes you have experienced as a Native American student.
