This fund was established by a private donor to support enrichment experiences for students at Iowa State University, including, but not limited to, study abroad, travel to conferences, research projects, etc. A student may request funding up to $1,000 per academic year. This fund is open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Applicants should plan to submit their applications after plans are finalized (for example, after securing an internship or being accepted into a study abroad program) but before participating in the activity. Applications are due by close of business (5:00 p.m.) on the dates indicated. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.


  • To apply, students must:
    • Have demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
      FInancial need is determined through the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For information about FAFSA please visit http://www.financialaid.iastate.edu/fafsa/.
    • Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and no financial holds.
  • A student can only receive funding once per academic year.
  • Transfer students may apply in April prior to enrolling at Iowa State, for activities to take place during fall semester.
  • Awards will be processed through the student financial aid system and applied directly to the recipients’ u-bills during the semester in which costs are incurred. For activities taking place during the summer, awards may not be applied until fall, depending on the student’s financial situation. These will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Any research project for which funds will be used must comply with the research policies of Iowa State University (see http://policy.iastate.edu/policy/research-intellectual-property).

To apply, submit the following materials:

  • Cover form (below)
  • Resume
  • 1-2 page essay addressing the following questions:
    • What do you plan to do? Discuss in detail: when, where, why and how.
    • How does your project/initiative enrich your experience as an Iowa State student?
    • What are the specific outcomes/goals to be achieved by this project/initiative?
  • Budget outlining how funds will be used. If you are receiving any other funding for this project/initiative, please indicate that in the budget.

If you are selected to receive an award, we would like to hear how you used the funds and how they benefitted your professional development. A final report (1-2 pages) is due to the Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs by the end of the semester (last day of finals) in which the activity supported by the funds takes place. The award may be revoked if the report is not completed by this deadline.
