Welcome to Fall 2018!

Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Martino Harmon

Greetings to all of our new and returning Cyclones!

I am thrilled to welcome all 29,621 undergraduates and 5,371 graduate students to campus, a total of 34,992 students!

For those of you new to Iowa State, I am excited to have you on campus and look forward to sharing in your adventures at Iowa State. Whether you are new or returning and no matter what you are studying or what your interests are, Iowa State has plenty of opportunities to enrich your education and grow your academic career:

  • Iowa State boasts over 850 student organizations. Chances are you will find a student organization that fits your interests. If your hobby or passion is unique and there is no club or organization yet, I hope you will start one!
  • The Dean of Students Office (DSO) has several units that serve a number of students’ needs and interests. From the International Students and Scholars Office, to the Margaret Sloss Women’s Center, to Multicultural Student Affairs and the Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Services, the DSO is here to assist you in many ways. Not sure what kind of assistance you need? Start with the DSO! Visit https://www.dso.iastate.edu/ to learn more.
  • As we head further into the semester, please remember to take care of yourself! Eat well, exercise, and lower your stress. ISU Dining offers 23 locations with healthy options and Student Health and Wellness will help you focus on your physical, mental well-being, and other forms of well-being. ISU Dining also hires over 1,500 students throughout the year! If you are looking for a job, they are a great place to start!
  • Student Wellness is also home to the nationally recognized Green Dot program. Your safety and well-being is a top priority for us and through Green Dot you can better understand choices, behaviors, words or attitudes that promote safety and intolerance for power-based personal violence. Learn how you can be a green dot and promote safety on our campus.
  • Need to manage your finances and stay ahead of debt? The Student Loan Education Office in the Office of Student Financial Aid will help you stay on track.
  • Ready to graduate? Don’t forget to contact the Office of the Registrar to make sure you have everything you need to cross that stage!

This is a small list of all we offer in Student Affairs. No matter what you are looking for or trying to achieve while you are at Iowa State, please come and seek out our assistance. We are here to help!

Once again, welcome to Iowa State University and welcome to the Cyclone Family! As Cyclones, we celebrate and honor the different backgrounds, experiences, and journeys that brought us to campus. The university’s Principles of Community are a way for us to show care and respect for our differences by valuing purpose, cooperation, diversity and inclusion, freedom from discrimination, and honesty. To learn more about these principles, please see this video and help us continue to make Iowa State a positive, safe, and enjoyable adventure!

Go Cyclones!
